For this week we are celebrating the late, great Taylor Hawkins and breaking down my personal favourite groove of his from the track 'Rope' by Foo Fighters. This beat is in the chorus of the song and features an awesome sounding pattern between the bell of the ride and the snare. This groove has inspired a few of my ideas in the past with it's nod to South American styles being brought in to modern rock. We will also take a look at how you can borrow from the great drummers of the world and create to ideas of our own. For this week's lesson we have got a delightful drum lick that we are going to lead with our weaker hand (in my case, my left). The sticking is a six note pattern, beginning with a left hand paradiddle followed by a double kick. The chop works well as a drum fill simply played between the kick, snare and hi hat, but can be orchestrated around the kit.
